Golden Triangle RC&D, in partnership with U.S. Fish & Wildlife, is extending the Best Management Practices outlined in the Spring Creek Management Plan. Through a grant from The Bonneville Environmental Foundation and The Georgia Power Foundation Inc., Golden Triangle and our partners began the restoration of 1 mile of the Spring Creek streambank. The goal of this restoration is to protect the critical habitat of the Shiny-Rayed Pocket Book and the Oval Pigtoe, two endangered mussel species that reside in the creek. Habitat loss, sedimentation, and other factors have put these species (and many others) in peril. Streambank stabilization, riparian and turbid barrier installations will each be a key focus to help mitigate negative factors.
